#2 Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit/Gas Recover Plant and Straight Run Gas Plant

The #2 Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit / Gas Recovery Plant (#2 FCCU/GRP), Unit 22, is a side-by-side Model IV type unit, rated for 13,000 BPSD. The unit has undergone numerous revamps including the addition of more modern technology in terms of reactor and regenerator internals, and double riser injection nozzles.

The unit was originally built in 1974 and significant internal modifications were made during a 1993 revamp to allow for processing small percentages of high quality residues with the typical VGO feedstocks. Additional fractionator overhead trim condensers, cycle oil exchangers and a HCGO steam generator were also added during this revamp. New cyclones were installed during the 1999 turnaround.

The unit has a single motor driven 5,000 HP main air blower with the unit air capacity supplemented from the plant utility air compressors. The #2 GRP wet gas compressor is a single 1750 HP, two barrel, high-speed centrifugal machine.

This unit has a combined Straight Run Gas Plant (SRGP) for processing saturated and unsaturated gases. This unit consists of a deethanizer and C3/C4 splitter columns with associated Fuel Gas and LPG amine scrubbing, as well as caustic and water wash towers. Light gases and LPG feeds to these towers come from the #2 CDU and #2 CRU areas. The C3/C4 splitter column was replaced in 1981. The existing deethanizer column and associated exchangers in this section were installed in the mid 1990’s and more recently the straight run LPG water wash column was replaced in 1998.
