Edmonton Refinery - Plant 7
Vacuum Distillation Unit
The function of the vacuum distillation unit is to provide enhanced separation of valuable fractions from the atmospheric crude fractionation unit (Plant 1) reduced crude stream. The vacuum tower operates at a very low pressure of between 5-20 mm Mercury absolute in order to provide the enhanced separation.
A light vacuum gas oil and a heavy vacuum gas oil is drawn from the vacuum tower, and the combined production is routed to the fluid catalytic cracking unit (Plant 8). The vacuum tower bottoms are sent to the delayed coking unit (Plant 13) for further processing.
